Many service stations will have an open space which is free of vehicles, where your little ones can let off some steam and tire themselves out. Just make sure you don’t let them stock up on sugar at the same time!

Okay, this isn’t the cheapest option, but it definitely works. You can get portable DVD players for as little as £50 now.It used to be a budget buster, but isn’t anymore. Invest in some cheap DVDs such as old Disney films, sit back and enjoy the peace and quiet.

You can buy pretty much any book on CD these days. From Harry Potter to The Wizard Of OZ, there should be something that your kids will love. Investing in a classic like Oliver Twist has the added benefit of developing their appreciation of literary greats.
