Qatar Airways, the state-owned flag carrier of Qatar has become the first airline in the world to operate a flight to Kathmandu with a new navigation equipped airliner deploying the latest aircraft technology.
The Doha-based airline has achieved a new milestone in the aviation industry. It has implemented a Required Navigation Performance – Authorisation Required (RNP AR) approach into the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.
Draped in the Himalayan mountain range, the Nepalese capital has one of the most complicated approaches in the world due to the surrounding challenging terrain.
Flying an RNP AR approach into Nepal’s airport lessens workload of the pilots significantly that allows them to reap certain benefits of the advanced navigation equipment which is mounted in the airliner to effortlessly fly around difficult terrain.
Akbar Al baker, Chief Executive Officer, Qatar Airways stated, “We take a deep sense of pride in adopting the latest technology across the fleet and operation to ensure that we maintain all standards, which is crucial for any business of our nature.”
