Ethiopia, which is one of the developing countries in the African continent, is on the edge to construct a new international airport due to the ever growing air traffic that has witnessed a steep rise.
Director of the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority, Colonel Wossenyeleh Huhegnaw said, "The Ethiopian Airport Enterprise is carrying out a study to execute the expansion project at Bole International Airport.”
When the prime extension of Bole International Airport based in Addis Ababa was designed to reach the projected numbers, it was assumed that the Bole airport will accommodate air traffic until 2017. But the airport has gone beyond its maximum capacity in 2010.
Bole International Airport at present operates more than 150 daily flights with Ethiopian Airlines.
Ethiopia has lately commenced direct international cargo flight from Mekelle and Bahir Dar, which indicates that all flights to Ethiopia and also from the country are available through its capital.
