The Austrian Airlines Group has increased the number of passengers by 1.8 per cent in 2012 from the prior–year level which has increased its total of 11.5 million passengers. The passenger load factor was up by 3.8 percentage points, rising 77.5 percent. With an increase in flights to Austria, the Austrian Airlines has managed to increase productivity, the passenger load factor and profitability.
Capacity as measured by available seat Kilometers (ASK) was reduced by four per cent whereas the comparable figure for revenue passenger kilometer (RPK) is improved by 0.9 per cent.
According to Karsten Benz, chief commercial officer of Austrian Airlines, during the month of December 2012, Austrian Airlines has carried more than 811,000 passengers and the airline has operated four fewer aircraft than a previous year.
Although the capacity in ASK was reduced by 6.8 per cent and the passenger carried rose by 2.4 per cent as compared to December 2011 whereas the passenger load factor is improved to 76.3 per cent in December 2012 which is an improvement of 4.2 percent from December 2011.
