Gulf Air, the national carrier of Kingdom of Bahrain, is to resume its direct flights to southern Indian city Thiruvananthapuram after a gap of three years. Starting on 15th December, the carrier will have five weekly flights from Bahrain to Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. According to Gulf Air’s acting CEO, Maher Al Musallam, The decision to resume flights to Thiruvananthapuram emphasizes the importance of India which is one of the key markets. The business strategy of airline is to concentrate on high-demand point-to-point routes to ensure the customers are served effectively and efficiently.
Gulf Air has been flying to India since 1960 and Thiruvananthapuram is the fifth destination of added to airline’s existing network, increasing the carrier’s capacity to India by 10 percent from 45 to 50 weekly flights. It currently has direct flights connecting Bahrain with Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai , and Kochi.
In July 2010, Gulf Air has suspended flights to Thiruvananthapuram due to low profitability route.
