Asian Wings has become the first airline in six years to offer direct flights between Chiang Mai and Mandalay. The new flight to Chiang Mai, which is the second largest city of Burma, is touched down on Wednesday, marking the first time a small Burmese carrier operates an international flight since its beginning in 2011. According to Yin Yin Nyo Myint, commercial director of Asian Wings, The new route will fly to Chiang Mai twice per week on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons. The Saturday flight will begin from 15th February 2014.
She further added that flights to Chiang Mai were encouraging more and more visitors to visit Myanmar due to its economic development and major political changes. Air Mandalay use to offer flight service to Chiang Mai from Mandalay, but the route was suspended in August 2008 because it was not capable of working successfully. Asian Wings is working hard to promote the new flight service in both the countries which will boost the Chiang Mai and Mandalay tourism.
