Philippines’ airlines are looking at new tourism opportunities with Myanmar to strengthen the bilateral ties, including the visa-free entry for a period of time for travellers between both the nations. Flag carrier Philippine Airlines and budget airline Cebu Pacific Air said that they are interested in flying to Myanmar, which is often described as the region’s final frontier, according to their respective officials.
According to executive director Carmelo Arcilla , Philippines and Myanmar do not share any existing air service agreement , but talks are already in the calendar and tentatively been set for the first or second quarter of 2014. It is a potential market and within the next three years one of the airlines can consider flying there. Among the country’s major carriers, Arcilla noted that Cebu Pacific has expressed its interest to fly to Myanmar.
