When you need a break and your annual vacation comes around you just want to forget about everything back at home for a while and enjoy some time for yourself. Once you’re away from work, home and even some obnoxious friends, you can really focus on you and take care of your needs.
Typically, people like to go to warm, sunny places on vacations, not cold or balmy locations. Thailand is one example of a country people all over the world go to visit, ranging from it's culture, cuisine and raunchy nightlife. It’s one of the most popular vacation spots in the world, in no small part thanks to three popular cities.
Bangkok - The Big Mango
Bangkok has a population of well over 9 million people and it is one of the most densely populated cities in the world. The huge throngs of people will be enough to scare away shy or timid folks but if you’re looking to experience a real hustle and bustle of moving bodies, traffic jams and congestion there are few better places you could go for the experience, not to mention the nightlife.
Much of Thailand’s history is chronicled in the capital and you can see the King’s Palace as well as other sites of relevance, though seeing them and actually getting inside is two different things. Be aware of many scams from locals who will tell you that the attractions are closed, in-fact they are rarely closed and it is an attempt to get you to a corrupt shop which pays out large commissions at your expense.

Nonthaburi Near Bangkok
Nonthaburi is the second most populous city in Thailand but the number of people is nothing compared to Bangkok. It’s almost like a light version of the country’s capital with only 262,000 people or so. It is an equally beautiful place even if it is far less busy. Nonthaburi would avail you of some of the country’s finest foods and local flavors as the restaurant scene is impeccable. Wat Sangkhatan and Wat Chotikaram are two ancient Buddhist monasteries which are still standing in Thailand, today and you can see them both if you visit this province, straight northwest from Bangkok. To many people, it is now part of Bangkok as the city as sprawled out in all directions.
Mae Sot
Sometimes, the best part about going on vacation is getting away from everyone, not jumping from the middle of one loud place into the center of another place which is just as loud and full of obnoxious tourist. If you’re looking for the small town experience while visiting Thailand, you’re sure to find it in one of the country’s hundreds of villages. Mae Sot is one of Thailand’s smallest cities with a population of only 36,318. This is a great place to go fresh water fishing and escape reality. It is a popular border crossing and trading town with Myanmar located about half way between Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Most of the local trade is 'black market' trading, where you can pick up many interesting goods that are smuggled into Thailand with the assistance of the local police. These are not bad or dangerous items, however some goods are still under sanctions from some western countries, hence the way that local business is conducted.
There is a small airport that Nok Air services, however most people arrive by overnight bus. The town it self is nothing amazing, but it is the base for many activities within the rural region.
