There's something about the summertime in New Jersey that makes it unlike any other. You can take a weekend trip to Philadelphia or NYC, head down the shore, or visit the pine barrens for some peaceful camping. Between the many opportunities for warm-weather adventure and the delicious homegrown tomatoes, strawberries, and blueberries, there isn't much that could make New Jersians want to leave the state once June hits. Except, of course, fuel costs.
Just a few years ago, Jersey drivers saw the cost of gasoline rise to over four dollars per gallon. Whether it will hit that point again this summer, it's hard to say - but the fact that the prices become difficult to afford is a constant. Whether you're a Jersey driver in the market to buy a car and don't think fuel prices will let you afford it, or you want to take a few extra road trips this summer without breaking the bank, there are a few solutions to the issue - don't sweat!
Buy Fuel-Efficient
Many manufacturers know that the average driver struggles daily with fuel costs - it's something that affects everyone. Combined with the cultural obsession with going green, these reasons have given manufacturers initiative to make more fuel-efficient vehicles. Do some research online to find hybrid vehicles, if that's your preference, or ones that put an emphasis on "eco." There are tons of models on the market right now that get upwards of 35 miles to the gallon so your trips to the shore will feel like nothing! It'll take less to fill your tank and that amount of gas will get you further. Plus, being better for the environment is never a bad thing.
Buy Barely Pre-Owned
Buying a vehicle that's just a few years old, such as right after someone's lease was up, is like hitting the sweet spot. It hasn't been through so much use that you have to worry immensely about whether it's a junker, but since it's not brand new, you're saving thousands of dollars. It'll likely still be in great condition, and will also boast a great price tag. Just go to your NJ Toyota dealer, or company of your choosing, and ask them which ones have just been returned after a lease.
Lease, Lease, Lease
So many people dismiss the option of leasing a vehicle, and it's difficult to understand why. Leasing is actually a great option -- the payments are often less than what you'd have if you were financing a vehicle, you get to drive around in something brand new, you get to get acquainted with a vehicle before actually committing to it, and many dealerships hold great deals and special events. If you're eager to get behind the wheel of a new vehicle for one reason or another, but you're afraid the payment will leave your pockets empty, leasing is absolutely the best option.
Don't let high fuel costs prevent you from enjoying the widely-loved Jersey summer activities. If you need to get in the driver's seat, and soon, there are wise options that you can make.
