Singapore Airlines is on the verge of launching its in-flight connectivity as part of a $50 million programme so that it can provide the internet and mobile data services to the customers even when the passengers are flying at an altitude of 35,000ft.
The in-flight connectivity is available on 14 airliners in the fleet of Singapore Airlines’ aircrafts that include Airbus A340s that are deployed on the longest non-stop flights of the world between Singapore and Newark. Flights to Los Angeles would also be equipped with the technological in-flight programme.
Such services have been extended to the Australian market and the regulatory approvals have not been acquired. Passengers can now gain an access to the Internet, send and receive emails on their smartphones and other electronic devices. They can also send and receive text messages with GSM-compatible mobile phones.
There is a map that would highlight availability when flying over particular countries and is published in the Singapore Airlines’ KrisWorld in-flight entertainment magazine.
