WestJet, the Canadian low-cost carrier announced five new routes and number of schedule changes. It is the most comprehensive schedule release since the airline took to the skies in 1996. The major highlight for U.S. travelers will be nonstop flights New York JFK from Calgary which will be launched on 27th April. The carrier will fly one daily round-trip flight to New York JFK from Calgary using Boeing 737 jets. Calgary is home to WestJet’s headquarters as well as one of the carrier’s biggest bases.
WestJet also plans to add flights to Las Vegas from Alberta city of Fort McMurray. The airline will start flying on this route from 24th June offering two flights per week. Other routes of WestJet includes
• Calgary-Prince George, B.C. One daily round-trip flight beginning from 27th April
• Vancouver-Fort McMurray, Alberta: One daily round-trip flight beginning from 12th May
• Fort McMurray-Kelowna, B.C.: One daily round-trip flight beginning from 12th May
The airline also plans to increase the number of flights it offers on 20 existing routes and will convert five seasonal routes into year-round service. According to John Weatherill, WestJet’s director of Network and Schedule planning, the latest schedule reflects the varied needs of guests who choose WestJet. He further says that the airline has added in-flight services and amenities for guests travelling for business and additional flight frequency and convenient non-stop service across all the points of network.
In another announcement, WestJet also advertize other upcoming routes and changes most notably among them the company’s first trans-Atlantic route. The service to Dublin from Toronto is scheduled to begin from 15th June. The summer highlights of airline include service increase to 15 popular southern destinations including Palm Springs, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Fort Lauderdale and Phoenix in addition to well-traveled Caribbean and Mexican spots."
