US Airways is adding second destination in Ireland from its Philadelphia hub. The airline today began daily non-stop summer flights to Shannon in western Ireland. The flights will be operated on 176-seat-dual-class Boeing 757-200 aircraft until 6th September 2013. The new flight service will complement the existing flights services to Philadelphia-Dublin, which the carrier serves year-round from Ireland and during the summer from Charlotte, N.C., its largest hub. The last time the airline had flights to Shannon was four years ago.
According to Suzanne Boda, US Airways’ senior vice president for Airport Customer Service, International and Cargo, Ireland is an important destination for customers and the return of non-stop service between Philadelphia and Shannon provides travellers an additional option to reach the Emerald Isle. US Airways customers in Shannon will also have one-stop service throughout the United States from international gateway at Philadelphia.
In the words of Rose Hynes, Shannon Airport chairman, Philadelphia’s appeal is heightened by the fact that it is a hub airport for US Airways, with onward connections to more than 100 cities across the United States and the route will become popular in Shannon. Travellers will enjoy an extra perk if they book a trip to Shannon. They will be able to clear U.S. immigration and customs before departing Shannon, thus their baggage will be cleared to their final destination and they’ll be able to make connections more quickly.
