Canada’s fourth busiest airport, Calgary International Airport is getting a prime makeover as it undergoes an expansion in order to accommodate an increase in passenger volume. The construction is expected to meet its end by October 2015.
The Calgary International Airport (YYC) is currently facing a $2 billion expansion that would be double in size. The airport has experienced a rapid evolution in traffic over the last ten years, which has seen a rise in traffic by 60 percent in the past six years.
Airport authorities said, an expansion plays a pivotal role to bring the infrastructure up to speed.
The flights to Calgary have been withheld due to the massive construction of the airport.
Director of corporate communications and marketing for the Calgary Airport Authority, Jody Moseley said, “Both the terminal and runways are often loaded with more capacity during peak times. They’re undergoing a construction so that the current needs can be met.”
