Emirates the Dubai based airline has launched the first regular A380 service to Spain with daily superjumbo flight to Barcelona. The service will replace the Boeing 777 previously operated on the route, adding over 2,200 seats per week between Dubai and Barcelona due to strong passenger demand. Flights to Barcelona makes it join the 25 other cities around the world to be served by Emirates A380.
According to Thierry Aucoc, Senior Vice President Commercial Operations Europe and Russian Federation, Barcelona serves as the business corridor of Mediterranean with a vibrant economy and has developed as a multi-faceted tourism destination. Barcelona-El Prat airport handled a record 35 million passengers last year of which 50,000 travelled to UAE. With the arrival of Superjumbo to Barcelona that figure looks set to increase.
Spain, much like Ireland now enjoys better links with Gulf carrier, after years when both the countries were not so well connected.
