Air India Express has launched direct flights to Damman, Saudi Arabia. With the launch of the new flights the long awaited demand for connectivity to this Middle East destination has become a reality. The need of a flight to Saudi Arabia from Mangalore was felt for long.
The flights on Mangalore-Dammam route will operate twice a week. The flights for Dammam will take off from Mangalore at 5pm and reach Dammam at 7:40 pm (local time) on Wednesday and Saturday. On return journey, the flights will take off from Dammam at 8.30pm (local time), and reach Mangalore at 3.20 am on Thursdays and Sundays.
An Air India official said that with the commencement of new flights AIE is now operating 24 international flights every week from Mangalore to destinations like Dubai, Kuwait, Bahrain, Doha, Abu Dhabi and Muscat.
Udupi Chikmagalur MP K Jayaprakash Hegde and Mangalore MLA UT Khader also boarded the inaugural flight.
