Zest Air, the budget carrier based in Philippines, is planning to launch direct flights to Taipei in order to cater increasing number of passengers keeping in view the reduced tension between the Philippines and Taiwan.
The airline is planning to start direct flights to Taipei by November this year. The airline’s previous plans to fly to Taiwan didn’t bore fruit as members of the Philippine Coast Guard killed a Taiwanese fisherman in overlapping territorial waters.
The shooting incident sparked a new row and Taiwan enforced punitive sanctions against the Philippines. The sanctions were recently removed after Manila apologized formally to Taipei for the incident.
Zest Air also had to cancel daily chartered flights from Taipei to Kalibo, when the tension was at its peak. The chartered service has been restarted recently.
The airline is planning to expand its services outside the region and its planning flights to Dubai in partnership with Air Asia.
The Philippines based budget carrier operates 11aircraft on 10 domestic and 10 international routes that include China, Vietnam, South Korea, Malaysia and Hong Kong.
The launch of flights will benefit leisure and business travellers flying on this network.
