Southwest Airlines has commenced new flights to San Juan, Puerto Rico. The airline has converted AirTran routes in to the Southwest name.
The flights were started on Sunday; the Southwest airline has taken over AirTran Airways operations in four other cities that include Charlotte, N.C.; Flint, Mich.; Portland, Maine; and Rochester, N.Y.
Previously Southwest airline had bought AirTran in 2011.
It is first occasion in the history of Dallas based southwest airline when it has started operation to five new destination on the same date. It is worth noting that Southwest carries more U.S. passengers in comparison to other airline but United, Delta and American are bigger when passenger traffic on international and domestic routes are counted.
AirTran will keep flying on San Juan and Baltimore, Atlanta and Fort Lauderdale, Fla route. The flights to Fort Lauderdale will start operating in the name of Southwest from Sept. 29.
