Etihad Airways has surpassed its target of carrying 10 million passengers in 2012 which is 22 percent increase on the total 8.41 million passengers for 2011. The passenger growth for Etihad Airways is mirrored by its equity partners and they have collectively carried more than 74 million passengers in 2012.
According to James Hogan, President and Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, Etihad Airways has achieved a significant growth in 2012 and surpassed its target of flying more than 10 million passengers during the year for the first time. The airways has launched flights to new six destinations during the last year to Tripoli, Shanghai, Nairobi, Basra , Lagos and Ahmedabad , which all have contributed in 22 percent increase in passenger numbers.
Ethiad Airlines has announced to start new flights to Washington DC in March, Sao Paulo in June and Ho Chi Minh City in October 2013.
The busiest route of Ethiad Airways was Bangkok, with the airline carrying nearly 691,000 passengers which is 38 percent increase on 2011. This is closely followed by Manila, Heathrow, Jeddah, Sydney, Paris, Frankfurt, Manchester, Doha, and Dublin the other most popular routes.
During 2012 another milestone achieved by Etihad Airlines is to take number of passengers in a single day with 33,766 passengers flying on Saturday 14th July. The airline will take delivery of 14 new aircrafts in 2013 which include four A320 Passenger aircrafts, one A321 passenger aircraft, one A330 freighter from Airbus, two B777 freighters and six B777-300ER passenger aircrafts for Boeing.
