Travelling can be a remarkable experience no matter where you go, but for many seasoned travelers, the idea of leaving your place of residence is only worthwhile if you are forced out of your comfort zone. A great way to see what all the world has to offer (and it has plenty, just by the way!) is to travel to exotic destinations that are not on the map of conventional tourists. In an increasingly globalized world, there are few places that can truly be described as exotic, but we have managed to compile a list of places that have not been taken over by the new “global” culture.
Mexico
For most Americans, Mexico is the not only the most affordable but also the most enticing destination to travel to. Mexico is home to some of the oldest civilizations in the world and the country has done well to protect its heritage. Stay clear of traditional tourist destinations where Americans often outnumber Mexicans, and try to branch out to smaller towns and cities. You might think you have tasted authentic Mexican food but once you visit interior Mexico, you will never want to leave.
Egypt
You might not consider Egypt an exotic tourist attraction since it attracts millions of tourists from all over the world, but the fact of the matter is that within this Middle Eastern country, there remains a number of places that can be described by no word other than exotic. Egypt has a lot to offer as a tourist destination. Whether you cruise down the River Nile or visit some of the world’s most impressive pyramids, you will feel as though you are living inthe time of the Egyptian pharaohs.
Indonesia
Indonesia is the heart of the already-exotic southeast Asian region. Like Egypt, Indonesia attracts a great deal of tourists as well, but there are many untouched regions in this tropical country. In terms of topography, Indonesia boasts an incomparable diversity. The country’s extensive volcanic ranges are surrounded by beautiful sandy beaches and are amidst lush tropical rainforests. Jaya and Samutra provinces have amazing cultural heritage that you can explore by road. If you want to go to traditional tourist destinations within Indonesia, Bali is no more than a short flight away.
Peru
Most people who travel to Latin America end up visiting Brazil and poor Peru is ignored. However, this should not be taken to mean that Peru is not an incredibly exotic tourist destination. It doesn’t matter whether you are at Machu Picchu or exploring one of the many Icna ruins that are spread out so beautifully across the Sacred Valley. Peru offers not just the kind of hiking adventure tourists die for, but also some of the most stunning colonial architecture anywhere in the world.
Thailand
Thailand is one of the fastest growing tourist destinations in terms of popularity. This far-eastern Kingdom combines tradition with modernity like no other place in the world. Despite the fact that Bangkok offers an incredible metropolitan experience, there is plenty for those wishing to have a less conventional trip. Thailand is dotted with ancient Buddhist temples that are a must-see. Plus, Thailand’s rich history has remains spread out across the country. If you want a quick getaway, you can go to one of Thailand’s countless pristine beaches and get away from the troubles of everyday life.
