So you are seeking the perfect holiday destination, maybe the Caribbean, or a city break to Paris or Rome. There is so much choice depending on what your perfect holiday is. There is absolutely a holiday destination for every budget and person, but I was seeking something a little more family orientated.
After long deliberation, I decided that a Dubai holiday may be on the cards, having never visited Dubai before I wanted to see what it had to offer. Well let’s start with the climate, my wife and I are complete sun worshipers, and avid ones at that. Dubai in the height of summer can reach temperatures of 45° C and in the winter a reasonable 20°C. What’s even better is that the average rainfall is a measly 150 millimeters – let’s not discuss the UK stats, they are far too depressing!
The Dubai Fountains
These, particularly impressive, fountains just happen to be the world’s largest choreographed fountains…. Impressive? Uh, I was not even impressed, I was blown away! They are enormous! I believe that they are illuminated by 6,600 lights and in the region of 25 colour projectors. Let me get this one right, the fountains are 900ft long and the water is projected up to 500ft – that’s 19x the size of my house! The fountain can spray 83,000 of water into the sky in a heartbeat - with astonishing velocity! Wish that I could have seen the super shooters, but they were disabled after the opening ceremony. Well can’t have everything I suppose, this is a Dubai must see… It’s a pretty good if you want to cool off as well.
Next on the list of things to do….
Dolphin Bay
What can I say, well actually, what I can say is that money can’t buy children’s happiness, but this is about the closest that you will get. My kids were, probably, the most excited people on the face of the planet ever! Dolphin Bay is amazing! I am not big on animal attractions due to the various issues related to welfare, but I have to say that these animals are kept in pristine condition. We opted for the Dolphin encounter, and it was a magical experience, they are definitely the most intelligent and playful creatures that I have ever encountered – shame I can’t say that about my German Shepherd; she is just thick. Oh yeah, if you are heading to the bay, you need to visit the waterpark too.
Aquaventure Waterpark
Well this is something really special, it is not just a waterpark – believe me I have been to a few. But this is a magic mystery tour (sorry about the Beatles reference). The park has seven water slides, at one point I was surrounded by sharks and rays as I was flying through a tube – very strange experience, although super exhilarating! You will not get over the sheer enormity of this place; it is 17 hectares of madness! If you are looking for something a little more relaxing, then try the 700 meter private beach, there are plenty of eateries dotted around so you will never go hungry. If you are staying at the Atlantis, then you will have the added pleasure of having unlimited access to the park. Park entry is between £30 – nearly £50 per person, this may sound a little steep, but trust me it’s worth every penny.
I have to say that if you are looking for somewhere that will just take you to another planet, then Dubai is the place to be. My family and I had the most wonderful time of our lives there. We were looking for something a little different and we got it.
