Things to do
The Chao Phraya River is a major river in Thailand, flowing through the heart of Bangkok towards the Thai Gulf. Boat trips along this river are wonderful experiences that allow you to see canal houses, temples and skyscrapers that are scattered across the river banks.

You’ll want to take this trip at the start of a holiday to Thailand as itallows you to see a wide variety of places to explore later in your stay. The Chao Phraya river tours are so popular that prices for river tours are very low - some 9 Thai Baht or $0.35!
Things to eat
Or Tor Kor market is a heaven for food fanatics, boasting vegetables, fruits and fresh Thai seafood. Or Tor Kor was ranked 4th best fresh market in the world! Its right next to the Chatuchak Weekend Market, allowing you to take a stroll around both for a browse and it’s a great place to take photographs…like this!

The food hall offers fresh squeezed juices and light snacks; you could eat here for around $0.90. Or Tor Kor started out as an agricultural collective but is increasingly growing into a more upscale outdoor food market, with suited business tycoons climbing down from their Bangkok skyscrapers to also taste the delights Or Tor Kor has to offer.
Places to sleep
Our top banana tip of the day for luxurious rooms at ludicrously low prices is the Lamphu Tree House. Just off the main river, along the lamphu canal, this Thai style hotel sports wood-panelled rooms and antique gold teak decorations.

Lamphu Tree House has a great rooftop bar, perfect for sharing a beer with family and friends in the warm Thai evenings. We highly recommend the Lamphu Tree House for your Thai budget getaway and at $50 a night, we think it’s a steal! You certainly could find cheaper accommodation in Thailand at around $10-$20 per night, but the quality would be significantly lower.
